Do We Need Saws?

We need saws to cut wood since the ancient days. In the modern world, the use of saw is very common and we use it invariably for cutting woods for different reasons. In this article, we will be covering 5 prominent types of saws and their uses. Since the usage procedure is quite complex, it is important to know the exact procedure of using them properly. Hopefully, the article will give you important insights and overview while you use a particular type of saw.

5 types of Saws & Usage Mechanism:

Tile Saw:

A Tile saw is one with diamond blade and water cooling system. It is also regarded as a wet saw for its water cooling system. Tile saw is used in large tiling jobs where it requires to cut tiles in order to properly fit edges. Besides, a Tile saw can also help in cutting L-shaped cuts. Moreover, it is also used to cut glass. Since it provides a lot of services, it is imperative to know its usage mechanism. Now let us look at the usage steps.

How to use a Tile saw:

a) Firstly, position the saw on a plain surface. However, it is best positioned on a floor or a heavy table. On the contrast, positioning on a shaky table can result in incorrect cuts.

b) Secondly, you have to fill the reservoir of the saw with water. Tile saws have a reservoir beneath its cutting surface. The reservoir is removable while in some cases you have to manually fill it.

c) Thirdly, you have the position the tile on the table to cut it. For that, you have to adjust the fence so that when the tile gets pushed, the blade aligns with the pencil mark. Better if you leave the largest part between the fence and the blade thereby helping you keep your hand safe from the blade. For cutting the tiles of a diagonal position, you have to put miter guide between the fence and tile thus keeping the tile at 45-degree angle at the blade. While making L-shaped cuts to fit an electrical outlet, you have to set up the tile similar to the setup of normal cuts.

d) Then before cutting the tile, make sure water is sprayed on the blade. Then turn on the tile saw. Also, put on the power switch while making the cut.

e) Now you have to put the tile on the blade. Do it in such a manner so that it is fed into the blade very naturally and the blade will take care of cutting the tile. Moreover, take care of the edges of the tile to avoid any breakages.

f) Finally, you have to remove the cut pieces of the tile from the blade once the cut is complete.

Hence, using a tile saw includes several key steps which must be carefully taken into account.

Jigsaw:

A jigsaw is considered as an expert saw which can cut shapes of different materials. For that, you need a right blade. Let us look at its usage mechanism.

How to use Jigsaw:

a) Firstly, it is important to choose a proper jigsaw fit for the right tool. It is also necessary to have a jigsaw that varies with speed. Jigsaws with different speeds are best for cutting metals. It is also important to know that low blades are more durable. Meanwhile, some jigsaws are operated by batteries which are movable than the other saws. However, such saws are heavier.

b) Secondly, you have to select the right blade for the right material. Hence, it is imperative to learn several key features of a blade. Firstly, look at the composition of the blade as the jigsaws are made of high speed hardened steel. You also look at the width of the blade. For corners and edges, a blade with much width will be a right fit.

c) Once you selected the right jigsaw type and blade, get the material ready for the cut.

d) Mark the area you want to cut. Before, cutting you can also create a template of the cut in a paper to make the cut accurately.

e) Now it’s time to position the material you will cut. Make sure you place the material in a suitable place. You might have to use your both hands in action to maneuver the saw properly.

f) Start your cut by squeezing the button of the saw. Position the blade closely on the edge of the material.

g) In case if a lot of sawdust blocks you view, you better stop the saw. At the same time make sure that you have sufficient lights to see the marks while cutting.

h) While cutting you should also be careful of cutting too fast as it will overheat the blade. Finally, complete your cut.

Circular Saw:

This kind of saw is prominently found in the bags by the carpenters, builders. Let’s look at the instructions before applying the circular saw in action.

circular saw

How to use:

a) Again it is required to select the right circular saw for the right material. For that, we have to understand the application of different sizes such as Trim saws of 5 inch, 5 inch saws used for cutting lumber for construction purposes, skilsaws of 7.25 inch used for construction purposes, 8 and 10 inch saws used on industrial works.

b) Now, support the material before cutting so that the blade doesn’t interfere with anything kept under the cut.

c) Use a measuring tape or use stick rule before cutting the lumber. Now set the saw for the cut at the right depth.

d) Apply the saw in a running condition so that you can spring back the saw. Now you start cutting after you have checked the front of the blade. Also, have a look at the base of the saw while you are cutting.

e) While cutting the timber, push the saw with force to help the blade cutting. At the same time avoid pushing the saw very hard not to decrease the speed.

f) Finally, ensure that the blade returns to its normal position while completing the cut.

Table Saw:

This kind of saw is very dangerous which requires wearing glasses for protection. However, the table saw is one of the most productive saws that can rip, apply shapes to timbers. Table saw also requires regular maintenance for tuning up.

How to use:

a) Firstly make sure that you can use the right blade and it is tightened properly. At the same time make sure that the blade guard functions properly. Besides, make sure that the blade and fence are square. Before cutting, make sure that you don’t wear any kind of jewelry.

b) Before cutting keep a low blade height since it might be less dangerous because with less kick back. Whereas a higher blade height may have more heat and friction and also more chances for kick back. In the case of kick back, stand on the side.

c) Try to avoid any knots as they might be dangerous. Also, have a push stick to keep the hands away from the blade. Besides, never cut a long or wide piece. Moreover, feed the wood into the blade rather than pushing since forcing results in friction which will lead to kick back.

d) Try to put on an ear protection since the table saw is very noisy and chances of damaging your ears.

Band Saw:

Band saws are used for cutting irregular shapes. The most common use also include ripping lumbers to thinner slabs. Besides, it is useful for making smooth cuts in materials such as metals. It is also used for making regular and irregular cuts. Band saws are available in portable forms too. Before choosing a proper band saw make sure you consider the important features. Its capacity must be sufficient. In the case of working in the field, you can go for the powered saw.

Now let’s have a look at the instructions for using a band saw.

How to use:

a) First of all, try to get familiar with the saw as it uses trigger similar to circular saws and drills. Make sure you use both the handles which will help the user to operate the tool with control.

b) Band saw functions with a blade capable of cutting any metals. Besides, a user also has to dress properly to avoid any sort of

c) Make sure the saw blade positioned parallelly to the cut. Don’t exert enough pressure on the saw.

d) Slow the cut when you see the material is bending.

e) After the cut is complete just release the trigger .

Lastly, all 5 types of saws have different uses and different ways of using them. A user must carefully comply with the instructions to have a proper cut avoiding any sort of injuries.
